Could The Term “Women’s Fiction” Be Bad For Authors? | Thought Catalog.
I think that kind of labeling is very limiting. Like many people I would probably think of “Women’s Fiction” to be Romance, but since we already have many categories under the Romance label we don’t need to relabel this. And fiction by Women would not always be Romance, but would include all genres. There might be an argument for a label of “Feminist Fiction” for stories that deal solely with women related issues, but that probably already fits under other categories as well.
The problem with these sorts of labels is that they might limit the audience and turn off prospective readers. Mystery, sci-fi, historical, and so on makes sense, but labeling according to gender is probably not the best idea.
